Here’s what families are saying about Professor Brown’s teaching and courses…

“Thank you so much for being such an amazing teacher and dedicating your time to helping students become great writers!”

“I really enjoy the way she explains things; she is keeping my love for writing and grammar extremely strong.”

“I’m taking your fiction writing course on Homeschool Connections, and I’ve taken other courses that you’ve taught, and I wanted to say thank you. I very much enjoy your classes. It’s gotten me to start writing again. I no longer feel like writing is something I have to do, and I look forward to the time I’ve set aside to write. Thank you so much!”

“I just wanted to tell you that before I had teacher access, I used to take your classes recorded and they have always made my day — and been the only class I ever look forward to taking! You have made more of an impact on my writing than anybody ever has, you have given me an understanding about things that I struggled with and most importantly you have made me a better person! I just really wanted to say thank you!”

“I would like to thank you for the Hero’s Journey Class. It has helped me figure out so much of my story. I feel like it’s coming together, shaping right before my eyes. Thank you, thank you so much!”

“I wish we would have started using HSC sooner than my senior year! I keep urging my homeschool friends to use it, and I highly recommend you to them :).”

“Erin Brown… is the best, she makes everything fun and you can tell she loves what she does!!!”

“Our daughter took every single one of the courses at Aquinas Writing Advantage, the program created by Erin Brown, MA, MFA (also known as author Erin Brown Conroy/EB Conroy) — including every course in story development and fiction writing. It’s clear, our daughter not only fell in love with writing — but she also gained so many skills, as she is now a published author with Morgan James Publishing, one of the largest publishing houses in the US! Her first book, The Winter Elf, is a children’s novella and allegorical fantasy that can be read by families and individuals at children’s hospitals, cancer wards, and counseling centers, to understand the importance of embracing and sharing pain and loss and to move forward toward healing. We’re thrilled that the writing courses here have helped our daughter become a published author with a story that makes a difference!” — Rachel McCluskey, parent

“I want to pay you a compliment. My older son Michael took your series of high school writing classes that were recorded. For one of them, we paid a grader as well. He finished his first college English class this semester, and he not only got an A on every assignment, but he was also the only student in the class who was not required to complete separate grammar exercises. When comparing his college professor and you, Michael said, ‘Professor Conroy is tougher!’ Well done! Thank you.”

“This past year, [my son] (and I) took every middle school English class you taught, as well as your student improvement classes. I would lie on the bed, with my afternoon tea, and enjoy listening to you as [my son] took your classes. Thank you for your beautiful way of teaching, your kind heart, and your sincere prayers at the beginning of each class. You have helped my son tremendously with your excellent content and teaching style. May God bless you for all you do. We look forward to taking your high school classes next year.” — Debbie C.

“This course has been wonderful and [my son] has learned so much. Thank you for putting time and energy into teaching these classes!”

“We are thrilled that [our son] has gained more confidence and he has done so well in all his many writing assignments this year (across the board in all his classes). It has been a complete turn around as compared to last year. I am so proud of him. Truly, I am so grateful for your part! Thank you, thank you!!” — Elizabeth, 2020

“I have to tell you how much I’m enjoying your class. [My son] ‘attends’ class on his own, but I’ve been watching the recordings both because the information interests me and so that I can help my son implement what he’s learning. I don’t think my son realizes how beneficial and necessary these things are, but I’m hoping that when we work together to implement these practices in our home school day, he’ll become an enthusiastic believer!”

“I do want to share with you that our daughter Julia, when asked what she wanted for Christmas (I hand everyone an index card and ask them to fill in 10 items – with no hope of getting any or all of them…haha)…She filled out her card with the saying that all she wanted was to be able to take the Advanced Fiction Class part two…she did not want or need anything else! She has blossomed so much from taking these classes from Erin. Her eagerness for learning the craft, her ability to edit her work and others in the family, her desire to read with a critical eye, all stem from these creative writing classes. Thank you and thank Erin!”

“Tonight, I saw a great breakthrough in my son that gave me much joy as a mother. My son and a friend had to create a flyer, and the friend wrote most of the page. Afterwards at home, when I asked my son what he thought of the writing, he didn’t say anything flattering about it! Lol! We sat together to rewrite the page. When we were done, I asked my son what he thought of the rewrite. He told me that it was fantastic and proceeded to give his reasons which included an excellent hook, a claim, supporting reasons for the claim, linear writing, good vocabulary and that we took out all those pronouns! I just had to share this with you because without your help, my son wouldn’t be where he is. He is building structure in both his mind and his writing. It was so cool to see him apply these skills to real life tonight! God bless you, Angela” (parent, 2019)

“Thank you so much for your time and passion for teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed the classes I took with you, and still, use the information you taught me when writing academic papers and the occasional fiction piece. Thank you so much for all of your inspiration and guidance.”

“Thank you so much for teaching me fiction for the past two years, Ms. Conley! I’m graduating this year, so I wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve taught me. Here’s what high school students and their parents are saying about Mr O'Briens teaching and courses…

“In each class, especially our debates, Mr. O’Brien continuously instructed and reminded us to be knowledgeable and considerate of the view that opposes ours. Arguing is so much more effective and its end goal is more achievable if one understands where the other person is coming from. This is something that I grasp more fully now than I did before I took this class.”

“I have learned SO much this semester! It was a great experience.”

“I’ve always liked literature, but this class made me love it even more.”

“Looking back on my progress and that of others over the three debates, it is clear that we grew in how we attempt to interact and communicate with others. When I started the class, I would ramble much more than I do know, and use filler words that would merely distract people away from the message I was trying to give. Now that we are at the end of the course, I am incredibly less uncomfortable in my public speaking, even if it is online or through a webcam. In a more complete way, I realize the importance of speaking and writing with confidence, maturity, and wisdom. And not only did I learn this through my own practice of debating and arguing that I worked on in class and through the homework, but also through the example of Mr. O’Brien himself. He always got the point across, seamlessly going from serious to humorous and back again. Communicating effectively involves confidence, interaction, and being engaging, and I am blessed to have learned this and the importance of it in this class from not only my own efforts but through the teacher’s example.”

“The course was fun, Mr. O’Brien is a GREAT teacher!”

“Preparing for the debates was a lot of fun, as was seeing and hearing our classmates’ arguments. I really liked having to prepare both sides of our last argument and not knowing which we would do in class. Kevin O’Brien was an awesome teacher and gave me a great understanding of the subject. I would definitely recommend this class.”

“Mr. O’Brien was AWESOME!!! He is so funny!!! But he also taught us all we needed to know about drama!!!

“Debate and Argumentation was difficult at times. Whether when I was nervous before my first debate, or struggling through homework, it wasn’t always easy. However, looking back now I would say it was incredibly enjoyable, and any moments of difficulty simply helped to push myself in my studies which is necessary for anyone who is serious in pursuing the Truth.”

Parent testimonials:

“Kevin O’Brien was definitely [my daughter’s] favorite and most trusted teacher who brought out the best in [my daughter]…and gave her a boost of confidence in her talents and ability to learn…for that I’m forever grateful! What an exceptionally good teacher and holy man he is…truly a fine example of a Catholic-infused artist and teacher, for my daughter who is so interested in the arts, to follow! He, and all the other teachers, are so professional, caring, knowledgeable, and interesting as well…also, very respectful of [my daughter] and her classmates from all I could tell. We will forever sing Homeschool Connection’s praises and recommend your curriculum to anyone we know…actually already have several times!”

“I cannot tell you what a difference your class has made this semester for [my daughter]. She came downstairs the other day and said, ‘I’m so sad that Mr. O’Brien’s class is over.’ This semester I watched some of your classes with [my daughter] because she’d say, ‘Mom, you’re going to love this! Pull up a chair!’ You are an outstanding teacher … We are so grateful for your impact on my daughter’s life,”

“We love Mr. O’Brien!! Our daughter is really enjoying his class this semester. Thank you so much!”

” I remember speech classes being very intimidating for the naturally quieter people in class, but my son has not felt intimidated at all. He really likes the class discussions and has had a lot of fun with the creativity of the writing prompts and assignments.”

“The teacher, Kevin O’Brien was great!!! A very special thanks to Mr. O’Brien. I hope that he will continue to teach this class so that all [the] rest of my 7 kids may benefit from him. My son thoroughly enjoyed his class. I really like his focus on the philosopher, Socrates as a great philosopher and orator. He made the class very fun by dressing in costume!! What a GREAT teacher!!”

“The kids are very engaged, the teacher makes the material interesting and fun, and the kids get to try out their skills during class. The plays chosen are giving a deep and thorough survey of the history of drama even though the kids may not realize that.”

An organized view of everything we need to know in such a clear format was exactly what I needed. Teenagers are already stressed out about school and life in general – hearing that an important test isn’t as bad as we think is certainly music to our ears! I feel so much more confident in this area when I was absolutely terrified just three months ago. The timed essay you asked for was actually the first one I have ever done. Although I didn’t get to finish it, I knew exactly how to apply the skills I learned during class. It looked a lot better than I expected! Thank you so much for offering your services. I can assure you that not only myself, but the other students as well, gained invaluable knowledge. I hope that I will have the opportunity to work with you in the future!”

“Mrs. Rea is an incredible teacher. Her love for literature shows and energizes the students (Me at least!) Even through the online materials. I used Instructor Access, and I was inspired even more when I read through the notes Mrs. Rea left for me on my homework! Thank you Mrs. Rea!”

“Great class! I had a better understanding …and have gotten better grades on my essays!!!!”

“I felt the material was great for a middle school course and the instructor was focused, easy to understand and had an easy going delivery style. Overall, I would definitely take another course from her. This review is from a parent that previewed the course for their child to make sure it is a fit.”

“Ms Rea was very clear, gave good examples, and was very excited in her teaching.”

“Mrs. Rea is a great teacher and she helped me to understand the subject a lot better.”

“This was a great class! There are no other words for it. Not too hard, but still challenging and interesting. Ms. Geralyn Rea was so nice and clear and excited. She’s rubbing off on me! Thank you Homeschool Connections and Ms. Rea!”
